I do like the Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare. Currently, she is writing new adventures for the characters at the same time she is writing a three part prequel series. The author suggest you read them in the order they are being published - which is alternating between prequel and sequel. Giving background and story at the same time. I think I'll give this a try. I'm reading Clockwork Angel (1st of the prequels) - I'll let you know how it goes.
